I bought a new gun on Friday, Marlin lever action, .357 Mag/38 Spl. It shoots very well, and I hit most of the stuff I pointed it at.
I made the trek to Idaho Falls on Saturday, got the dog. With everything we had to do it took about 8 hours. We also had a birthday party for the bride (53) that evening so I was a busy boy.
Now let me lay a little background for you. We had a dog for thirteen years. I had to put her down eleven years back. I swore that I would never have another pet of any kind and I stood my ground for many years. My youngest son and his wife were in the middle of moving to Colorado and we kept the granddogs for about three months. Well this gave to bride the bug to have a dog again. I fought the fight. I fought a good fight, I ran the race. I stood my ground and I said NO. She asked if we could foster dogs. That is taking them from the kennels until they get adopted. I said this would work. I figured I was home free and life was good. My oldest son called and asked the bride if we were still looking for a dog. She explained about us fostering the dogs and that was what we were going to do. He went on the explain how he found this dog wandering the streets in the bitter cold, frost bite on her nose.. Fliers were put up, lost and found ads were ran, the dog was scanned for a micro chip, and contact with Corgi breeders were made. He could not find the owners. The dog is a pure bred Corgi, about two years old. She was wearing a collar but no tags. We figure somebody dumped her. Now my son already has two dogs and six cats. This little corgi was causing havoc in his home, she loves to chase the cats, and worst the kids had grown attached to it. At the request of the bride the dog was brought over to the house to see if we wanted it. Again I was standing my ground. Then I was told about the grandkids and how they were told that if grandma and grandpa kept the dog that they could still see it. How can a man stand his ground when grandkids are brought into the equation? I lost the fight, I went down in flames, and I had a dog. It was decided after a few weeks that Foxy (dog’s name) needed a friend to play with while we are at work all day. So the search was on. The bride (I love her very much) could not seem find any dogs on line in our area code. I mean I am putting on miles to find a dog. I am called into the computer room all the time to look at the little bundles of joy. After a long search one is found in Idaho Falls. Saturday was the day (her birthday) and off we went, it was snowing, it was early and we had a long drive ahead. The roads were pretty good until we hit the Malad pass. Ugly is the best description. Snow pack, down to one lane eighteen wheelers throwing snow, sand, and mud on the windshield, there was much crying and whimpering, but the bride told me to shut up at would be alright. Somewhere north of Pocatello the weather and roads cleared up. It was a good drive the rest of the way up. We took the Arco exit like we were told, not realizing that there are two Arco exits twenty mile apart. We should have taken the second. But we drove and drove, and for you who live in the west know it can get lonely in a hurry out here. We stopped on a hill and we could see thirty miles ahead and there was nothing but nothing out there. Not a building, not another car, nothing but open land. The bride made a call and we figured out that we were in the wrong place so back we went (this added about an hour to the trip). We finally made it and we adopted another dog (Dusty) a corgi mix about four months old. We placed the dogs in the back seat together and it was on. Foxy (she is a strong willed child) did not take well to this intruder. I was placed in the back seat to referee the fight. Three hours in the back seat of a Toyota with a four month old dog hiding behind my head and a two year old brat of a dog trying to get to him. We got home in time to have the party and introduce the new dog to friends and family. Foxy is still not happy with Dusty but I am sure that it will work out some day. Foxy has to realize that we got this dog to kept her company and that they will be best friends someday, but for right now I am a bodyguard. I am sure that there is more I will blog about these two in the coming months, so stay tuned.

LIke I said it was eleven years before I would let myself get a dog. But I am very glad that I have them. They do make me smile and I know that has to be good.
